Trump escorted out over shooting outside White House

US President Donald Trump’s presser has been temporarily interrupted over a shooting outside the White House.

US Secret Service escorted the president out of the media room where he was holding a press conference on Monday.

“There were no details – we just found out just now,” Trump told reporters after returning to the podium to inform reporters that the Secret Service had shot someone outside the White House.

“It was a shooting outside of the White House,” Trump said. “It seems to be very well under control. … But there was an actual shooting, and somebody has been taken to the hospital. I don’t know the condition of the person.” Trump said.

Asked whether he was “rattled” by the shooting, Trump responded casually: “I don’t know. Do I seem rattled?”

“The world’s always been a dangerous place. It’s not something that’s unique. You look back over the centuries, the world has been a dangerous place, very dangerous place, and it will continue, I guess, for a period of time.”

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Doug Buchanan, meanwhile, confirmed that the Secret Service had called requesting assistance “for a patient with a gunshot wound.”

The shooter, an adult male, was taken to a nearby hospital in the US capital.

“The investigation into a USSS officer involved shooting is ongoing. A male subject and a USSS officer were both transported to a local hospital. At no time during this incident was the White House complex breached or were any protectees in danger,” the Secret Service said on Twitter.
