The Pentagon is reportedly working on an ambitious military plan to increase its troop levels in the Middle East by more than 10,000 amid ongoing tensions with Iran in the region.
Unnamed US officials broke the news to the media on Wedensday, noting that the White House had the ultimate say and would decide whether the troops deployment or part of it is needed.
The officials insisted that the deployment had nothing to do with what Washington calls the “threat” coming from Iran.
The Pentagon will brief the White House on the plan on Thursday.
Iran has time and again asserted that it is not seeking war but stands ready to defend its interests in the region.
