In video – Woman throws tomato at Netanyahu at Tel Aviv market

TEL AVIV (Ma’an) — An 18-year-old Israeli woman threw a tomato at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday, during a campaign visit to Hatikva Market, in Tel Aviv City, in central Israel, ahead of the Israeli legislative elections on April 9th.

The tomato, which was thrown in Netanyahu’s direction, reportedly did not hit him due to being surrounded by a large number of Israeli police and security guards.

Israeli police took the 18-year-old tomato thrower, who remained unidentified, into custody for questioning, however, was granted conditional release shortly afterwards.

Netanyahu’s election challenger, Benny Gantz, condemned the tomato throwing via Twitter, reading, “I strongly condemn the throwing of tomatoes at Binyamin Netanyahu at the Hatikva Market. Israel needs unity – not violence.”

However, the Likud political party accused Gantz and his Blue and White party of being responsible for the incident and its documentation.

On the other hand, Netanyahu was visiting the Hatikva Market along with his wife, Sara, where supporters welcomed him while chanting “Bibi (Netanyahu’s nickname) is the king of Israel.”
