Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has met Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Monday in Turkish capital Ankara. The leaders met at the Presidential Complex in Ankara. The two leaders were expected to discuss bilateral relations and regional matters, the presidency said ahead of the meeting.
Turkey and Qatar are old friends but this friendship reached new height when Saudi Arabia and its allies severed diplomatic relations with Qatar and imposed a blockade. They accused that Qatar is supporting militancy.
The Qatari government has denied the accusation, blasting the blockade as unjustified and a violation of international law.
Amid this standoff, Qatar refused to budge an inch from it’s position and called Saudi Arabia’s decision to impose a blockade as unjustified. Turkey has provided increased support to Qatar, boosting food and other imports to meet the country’s shortages.
