In Saudi Arabia, women under 25 can now travel without companion

Riyadh: In order to give a new face to the economy, Saudi Arabia government is on a major reform program. Another major decision has been taken to achieve vision 2030. Now, women aged 25 and above can travel alone. A spokesman for the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage said that the tourist visa can be granted to woman travelling alone. This significant move signifies that women will not have to have a companion if they want to travel alone. Though, the rule hasn’t changed for the women under 25. They must be accompanied by at least one family member.

Director General of the commission’s licensing department Omar Al-Mubarak said,”The tourist visa will be a single-entry visa valid for a maximum of 30 days. ” He said that this visa is added to those currently available in the Kingdom. It is independent of work, visit, Hajj and Umrah visas.”

The SCTH said that the tourist visa will be available by the end of quarter of 2018. Al-Mubarak said that the regularions have been finalized and an electronic system is also built in coordination with the National Information Center and the Foreign Ministry.

It must be noted that the tourist visa system was implemented first in 2008. During 2008 and 2010, 32000 tourists visited Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian government wants to increase it’s tourism industry which is hugely dependent on Haj. But, now the government wants to make it more diverse.
