Thousand of Shia Muslims gathered at Shaeed Smarak and carried out a protest against Saudi monarchy here in the old city area today.
Shia community today mark the demolition anniversary of historical cemetery (Jannatul Baqi) of Madina, Saudi Arabia.
Protesters demanded for the reconstruction of the cemetery, where Prophet Mohammad’s daughter Hazrat Fatimah and four Shiite Imam (Imam Hasan, Imam Sajjad, Imam Baqir and Imam Jafar) are buried. It may recalled here that Saudi Monarchy demolished the cemetery 1926.
Today’s protest led by Maulana Yasoob Abbas, who also addressed the congregation and said that Saudi Monarchy hurt the sentiments of Shia Muslims by demolishing 1400 years old cemetery. Yasoob Abbas urged Indian Government to intervene and mount pressure on Saudi Government for the reconstruction of cemetery.
Many other clerics including Maulana Jafar Abbas, Maulana Ghulam Hussain Sadaf, Maulana Ejaz Athar etc were also addressed the protesters and lashed out at Saudi Monarchy for promoting extremism. These clerics also demanded the reconstruction of cemetery of Jannatul Baqi.
