Symposium on 107th birth anniversary of Majaz held at AMU

Aligarh. Asararul Haq Majaz was not only an eminent poet of Urdu but was also a great flag bearer of humanism said Dr Jasim Mohammad while chairing a symposium Majaz & Progressive Urdu Poetry held by Hindustani Sahitya Sanskriti Sangam (HSSS) on his 107th Birth Anniversary at Media Center Aligarh today. He said that born on 19 October 1911 at Barabanki (UP) he was AMU Alumnus and AMU has adopted his poem Nazar-e-Aligarh as its University Tarana which is a true tribute to him .
Dr. Jasim Mohammad said love and revolution both are important component in poetry of Asrarul Haq. He pointed out that AMU was center of progressive views during stay of Mejaz at Aligarh. Dr. Jasim Mohammad said the poem Inquilab of Majaz mirrors his thoughts and personality. He said though Majaz has given AMU its tarana but unfortunately AMU failed to remember him on his birth anniversary. He demanded from central government that Majaz Chair should be established in AMU to spread his progressive views as they are relevant today also.
Writer Obaidur Rahman Siddique said that Majaz is known for his emotional poems and so he is called Keats of Urdu language but in fact Majaz has very successfully combined revolutionary thoughts with love and emotions.
Dr Zubair Shadab the most unfortunate aspect of life of Majaz is that his life could not be remained stabilized. He joined All India Radio magazine Awaz in Delhi but within one year it folded up.
After symposium Hindustani Sahitya Sanskiriti Sangam passed a resolution demanding from central government to establish Majaz Chair in the Aligarh Muslim University to conduct research on his progressive views.
Apart of large number of teachers, thinkers and research scholars notably Dr Sheerin Masroor, Dr Farooque Khan, Dr Hanif, Deeba Abrar were also present in the talk.
