Police have already summoned certain officials of Republic TV in the TRP scam complaint.
New Delhi/ Mumbai: Mumbai Police have told Times Now that leading news channel ‘India Today’ has also been named in the TRP scam complaint besides Republic TV. A thorough investigation is currently underway.
As reported earlier by Times Now, the accused person has revealed that ‘he had induced household members where BARC barometers are installed to watch Republic TV for a specific time every day for monetary consideration to increase the viewership of the said channel which resulted into TRP manipulation’.
On Thursday, the Investigating Officer from Mumbai CID wrote to the vigilance officer of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in connection with the matter. Times Now is in possession of the said letter.
Times Now’s Siddhant Mishra reported that the top executives of Republic TV are likely to receive summons soon from the Mumbai Police. The representatives of the channel are expected to appear before the investigators by Friday evening.
On Thursday, the Mumbai Police busted a TRP manipulation racket and arrested one Vishal Ved Bhandari in connection with the matter. “We have unearthed a TRP racket in the city,” Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh said during a press conference. “TRP data has been compromised. We have collected evidence against 3 channels,” he added.
According to the FIR, Rs 400-500 were paid to these individuals to watch Republic TV for a certain period of time every day.
