Trinamool Congress is a company, not a political party: Mukul Roy

KOLKATA: Hitting out at Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, newly-inducted BJP leader Mukul Roy today called Trinamool Congress a “Limited Company”, and “not a political party”.

In his first public address as a BJP leader, Mukul Roy said Mamata Banerjee’s flagship brand Biswa Bangla that she uses for different purposes is not a government organisation but a company owned by a MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Roy waived some papers hinting that he had documents to prove his claim. However, in a quick rebuttal, the state government said that Biswa Bangla is registered with RoC as a government company and not private property.

“Biswa Bangla is not owned by an individual. It is registered as a government organisation. The logo and the brand of Biswa Bangla are creation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She had, however, given her creation to the government of West Bengal. So, both the brand and the log belong to the state government,” said Atri Bhattacharya, state home secretary.

Roy further went on to saying that materials used for the party work including the leaflets, banners, advertisement bring profit to one family. Adding that many Trinamool Congress leaders might be ignorant about this, he said, “Trinamool Congress is no more a political party. It has become a limited company.”
