AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party over 5 per cent GDP growth and the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) in Assam.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party over 5 per cent GDP in the first quarter of the financial year 2019-2020 and the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) in Assam.
Owaisi hit out at the Government on 5 per cent GDP growth, which is the slowest in the last six financial years. He said that people who voted for the BJP should open their eyes now.
Speaking on NRC, he said, “BJP should learn a lesson. They should stop asking for NRC throughout the country in terms of Hindus and Muslims. They should learn from what has happened in Assam. The so-called myth of illegal migrants has been busted. Many people in Assam have told me that the parents’ names are included, but names of their children are excluded. For example, Mohammad Sanaullah, he has served in Army. His case is pending in High Court. I am sure that he will also get justice.”
The Assam government today released the final list of the NRC in which more than 19 lakh people have been left out. Of the 3.29 crore people who applied for NRC, a total of 3.11 crore have made it to the final NRC list. Under the NRC, the cut-off date for determining one’s citizenship has been fixed as March 25, 1971.
Any cross-border illegal migrant who entered Assam after this date would be ineligible to be included in the NRC and would subsequently be declared an ïllegal immigrant”.
Those who were born or entered Assam prior to this date have to provide documentary evidence for the same.
