Shashi Tharoor praises Pak PM for Tipu Sultan tweet, says Imran Khan cares

Praising Khan for the Twitter post, Shashi Tharoor said, “One thing I personally know about Imran Khan is that his interest in the shared history of the Indian subcontinent is genuine and far-reaching.”

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for remembering Tipu Sultan on his death anniversary on May 4.

Praising Khan for the Twitter post, Shashi Tharoor said, “One thing I personally know about Imran Khan is that his interest in the shared history of the Indian subcontinent is genuine and far-reaching.”

On May 4, Imran Khan in a Twitter post said: “Today 4th May is the death anniversary of Tipu Sultan – a man I admire because he preferred freedom and died fighting for it rather than live a life of enslavement.”

This is not the first time Imran Khan has praised the ruler of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom. In February, the Pakistan prime minister lauded Sultan’s gallantry at a joint sitting of parliament convened in the wake of increased Indo-Pak tension after the Pulwama attack.

Sultan is known for valiantly fighting the fourth Anglo-Mysore war but was killed in the siege of Srirangapatna after French military advisers told him to escape through a secret passage. Sultan famously replied: “It is better to live one day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep.”

Tipu Sultan is also remembered for introducing a number of administrative innovations during his rule and is also considered a pioneer in the use of rocket artillery.
