Red Fort violence: Congress blames Amit Shah for ‘intelligence failure’, demands resignation

Congress has blamed the Red Fort violence incident on “intelligence failure” and has demanded Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation.

The Congress party on Wednesday demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation for “allowing miscreants to enter Red Fort”. Claiming that what happened at Red Fort on Tuesday was an intelligence failure, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala held the home minister responsible for two violent incidents in the national capital within a year.

“It was an intelligence failure and Amit Shah should be dismissed from his post immediately. This is the second incident in the capital in the last year,” Randeep Surjewala said, referring to the Delhi riots in February last year as the other incident.

The Congress leader claimed that if Amit Shah is not dismissed from his post now, it would be deemed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was protecting him.

The Congress party also raised objection over the registration of FIR against farm leaders “instead of miscreants”.

“Home minister completely failed to check the miscreants and rather than taking any action against miscreants, FIRs were registered against farm leaders,” Surjewala said.

He also claimed that since actor and activist Deep Sidhu is close to the BJP, his involvement in the Red Fort incident proves that it was a conspiracy to defame farmers’ union and their agitation.

The farmer’s tractor rally took a violent turn on Tuesday when several farmers broke barricades and marched on unapproved routes towards the central parts of the national capital. After clashing with the Delhi Police at ITO, hundreds of farmers moved towards the Red Fort where they hoisted a Sikh flag on a pole on the ramparts of the fort.

The incident has been condemned by all, including the farmers’ union that has accused actor Deep Sidhu and gangster Lakha Sidhana of leading a band of miscreants who entered the Red Fort and hoisted the flag.
