Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is all set to take over the party’s reins in early December, days before Gujarat goes to polls in two stages.
According to sources, the decision on Rahul’s possible takeover will be taken on 20 November in Delhi, where the party’s highest decision making body, the Congress Working Committee, will meet at 10.30 AM.
The CWC meeting is likely to take place at 10 Janpath, the official residence of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Top Comngress sources told Janta Ka Reporter that a resolution will be moved by the PCC presidents asking for Rahul to be appointed the next Congress president.
The date of notification is likely to be 21 November, while the elections for the post of the party president may be on 8 December. However, party sources said that ‘there may not be any need to follow this process’ since there will be no challenge to Rahul’s candidature.
Various Pradesh Congress Committees (State units) have already written to Sonia Gandhi endorsing Rahul’s future appointment as her successor.
Analysts say that Rahul’s election as the new Congress president just before the Gujarat polls will be an utterly bold move indicating the Congress party’s election preparedness.
