Since the UP government has not given permission for the Congress buses to enter the state since yesterday, Priyanka Gandhi said that the BJP is free to put their posters on the vehicles and take credit for the initiative as long as the buses for migrants are allowed to run.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday appealed the Uttar Pradesh government to not indulge in politics and let buses ply for migrant workers in the state.
With no end to the war of words between the Congress and the Uttar Pradesh government over the issue of providing buses for ferrying migrants, Priyanka Gandhi released a video on social media stressing the need of the hour.
“We’ll have to understand our responsibilities. The migrant labourers walking to return to their homes aren’t just Indians but India’s spinal cord. The country runs on their blood and sweat. It’s everyone’s responsibility. It’s not the time for politics,” Priyanka Gandhi said in her video.

Since the UP government has not given permission for the Congress buses to enter the state since yesterday, Priyanka Gandhi said that the BJP is free to put their posters on the vehicles and take credit for the initiative as long as the buses are allowed to run.
“At 4 PM it will be 24 hours since the buses were made available. If you want to use it, do it. Give us permission. If you want to use BJP party flags and stickers on buses then do it. If you want to say that you made those buses available, do it. But let the buses run,” she added.
Gandhi’s social media message came as over 250 buses arranged by the Congress for stranded migrant workers, were returned from the Delhi-Noida border after the UP authorities denied them permission to enter inside state.
Rajiv Shukla, who was leading the buses to UP from Delhi told India Today TV that, “We are not doing any politics. If the UP government wants to paste photos of their party leaders, put flags on buses, do that, but don’t make poor and migrants suffer any more. Over 800 buses are ready to take the migrants but the government should allow us. They are doing politics over poor people.”
On the other hand, the UP government claims that Congress is trying to gain political mileage out of the exercise.
“Many of the vehicles from the list of 1,000 buses turned out to be cars, ambulances and bikes. When students were being brought from Rajasthan, then why did the Congress not arrange any buses then?,” said a BJP spokesperson.
The Congress and the UP government are locked in an exchange of letters on the issue of running buses to ferry migrants home.
The row erupted on May 16 when Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra offered to provide 1,000 buses for migrant workers heading for their homes in Uttar Pradesh.
Even while accusing the Congress of playing politics over the plight of migrant workers, the UP government on Monday formally accepted the offer. It asked the Congress to submit a list of the buses and their drivers and conductors.
The Congress has lined up buses along the UP border and is seeking permission for plying them.
The Yogi government has allowed the plying of buses but put some conditions and also accused the Congress of giving false information about buses, some of which have turned out to be two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
