The mob captured the police officer and tied him to a tree and then thrashed him after which they chopped his hair.
Two police personnel were injured in a mob attack in Assam’s Nagaon district. The incident took place at Milanpur area near Chaparmukh under Raha police station in the central Assam district on Friday where a mob attacked a police team when they went to the area to investigate a domestic abuse case.
According to the reports, the police team went to the area to investigate a case in which a man, Hirak Jyoti Nath, along with his family physically assaulted his wife.
The family members of the woman had lodged a complaint with the police against Hirka Jyoti Nath and his family.
When the three-member police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Chaparmukh police point, Prafulla Bora, reached the area, the accused person and his family members including his mother and some locals had attacked the police team.
The mob captured the police officer and tied him to a tree. They thrashed the officer in that condition and also chopped his hair.
Following the incident, a police constable of the team informed the Officer-in-Charge of Raha police station and later another police team rescued the police officers from the clutch of the mob.
Later, the injured police officer was admitted to a private nursing home in Nagaon town.
A local villager of Manikpur area said the accused person Hirak Jyoti Nath and his family members had attacked the police team.
When the police team reached the home of the accused person and asked some questions to the mother and elder sister of the accused person, they attacked the police team. Later, the accused person and others also joined the attack. The police officer and one constable were injured in the mob attack. Later, a police team of Raha police station had rescued them, the local villager said.
On the other hand, some other villagers alleged that the police officer was drunk and physically assaulted a woman and thrashed several others.
Meanwhile, police have detained several people in connection with the incident.
