BSP Chief Mayawati resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, for “not being allowed to speak” about atrocities against Dalits and minorities.
After submitting her resignation to the Rajya Sabha chairman on Tuesday, Mayawati said that the deputy chairman, instead of asking the ruling party MPs to remain quiet, rang the bell and asked her to sit.
While RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has extended support to Mayawati. “We support Mayawati Ji and if she wants we will again send her to Rajya Sabha,” he told ANI. “This behavior of BJP Ministers against Mayawati Ji proves that BJP is an anti-Dalit party,” he added.
Mayawati ‘s term in the Upper House is till April next year. The decision to accept Mayawati ‘s resignation lies with the chairman. The format states that the resignation letter should be brief and should not mention the reasons.
