Mani Shankar Aiyar and Syeda Saiyidain Hameed to attend Dec 8 event at Jamia Millia Islamia
A day-long function to mark the SAARC Charter Day is being organised by the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia along with UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institute of Kashmir Studies, University of Kashmir on December 8.
South Asia Foundation, a secular, non-profit and non-political organization founded by UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Madanjeet Singh in 2000 will provide necessary support for the event that will take place at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia.
A panel discussion chaired by Prof. Veena Sikri, former Foreign Secretary and Professor, JMI will include speakers like Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, Editor, Hardnews, Ms. Jyoti Malhotra, Senior Journalist, Dr. Henrik Chetan Aspengren from the Centre for Colonial and Postcolonial Studies, Linnaeus University. The panel discussion on ‘Governance, Media and Peace Building in South Asia’ will take place at 10:30 am followed by film screening on South Asia at 2:30 p.m. A poster-making and debate competition on South Asia too have been lined up as part of the celebrations.
Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Former Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Member of Indian National Congress will be the Chief Guest at the Valedictory function at 3:30 pm on Dec 8 at the UGC-HRDC, JMI. The session will be chaired by Dr Syeda Saiyidain Hameed, former Member of the Planning Commission of India and a women’s rights activist and educationist.
