Delhi Commission for Women counsellor attacked

NEW DELHI: A counsellor from the Delhi Commission for Women was attacked by a drunken man who also threatened to kill her when she had gone to Tughlakabad to enquire into a case, the women’s panel said.

An FIR has been registered against the assailant, named Vinod, at the Govindpuri Police Station, reported PTI.

The counsellor works at the DCW’s mobile helpline, said the women’s panel in a statement.

The statement further added, “Delhi Commission for Women counsellor was visiting a house in Tughlakabad after receiving a complaint on the women helpline 181; this is where she came face to face with an assailant carrying a stick.  The assailant threatened to kill her. On the basis of that, an FIR has been registered against the assailant in Govindpuri police station in accordance to section 506 and 509. The assailant has been recognized as Vinod while the counsellor works at the Delhi Commission for Women’s mobile helpline (MHL).”

The case came to light when a resident of Valmiki Street in Tughlakabad had called to complain about her daughter, who seemed to be suffering from mental illness and required assistance from the Delhi Commission for Women. A counsellor was sent to their house by DCW to assist the daughter. While the counsellor was conversing with the girl’s family, a drunken Vinod appeared and started abusing the counsellor and her driver. As the local residents’ tried to calm the situation down, Vinod got more aggravated and brought a stick from his house and ran after the counsellor. Even though he was stopped by the locals, it left the counsellor with a horrendous experience.
