JAIPUR: Muslim Students Organization of India (MSO) on Monday welcomed the recent fatwa of the Sunni seat of learning , Dargah Ala Hazrat, excommunicating Pakistani terrorist and mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist strike Hafiz Saeed.

MSO, a 35-year-old association, has over one lakh members spread across 22 states of the country. In a press release issued on Monday, General Secretary of MSO, Engineer Sujaat Ali Qadri said the fatwa would go some way in foiling the designs of terrorist groups seeking to recruit youth. He said the fatwa deserves wide publicity, and expressed surprise that even those who regularly issue statements against terrorism had failed to comment on this particular fatwa.

“Now that the Sufi school of theology headquartered in Bareilly has made its position clear and declared that this man is not a follower of Islam, it is time for Deobandis, the Jamaat e Islami and other organizations too to make their stance clear. The Deobandis often put out statements against terrorism but seldom cite names or organizations. We could all do with some clarity, some precision,” he said.
Hafiz Saeed is the founder of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, which the UN has declared a terrorist organization. In 2012, the US announced a US$10 million bounty on his head.
