Cupid played a curious role in Asath village in Madhya Pradesh . A 21-year-old bride ran away with a priest living in the village. The priest she ran away with was the same one who had performed her wedding rituals just 16 days before.
The woman, Priya (name changed), had gotten married on May 7 to a youth from the Asath village near Sironj and ran away with the priest on May 23. After getting married, Priya had gone back to her parent’s house.
The priest, identified as Vinod Maharaj used to conduct religious ceremonies in the village. He was married and had two kids.
On May 23, he was supposed to conduct another wedding but he was nowhere to be found. Upon inquiry by the villagers, it was found that Priya was missing too. Jewellery worth Rs 1.5 lakh given by Priya’s in-law and Rs 30,000 were also missing.
Vinod’s family, too, has been on the run since May 23.
The next day, Priya’s family filed a complaint with the police. They said Vinod was suspected to be behind Priya’s disappearance.
According to locals, Priya and Vinod had been having an affair for the past two years. They said that Vinod’s wife was aware of the affair. Priya’s family has also mentioned Vinod’s wife in their complaint to the police.
A police officer told Dainik Bhaskar that a missing person case has been filed by the Sironj police.
