Medalist Aman wants to see India dominate Wushu scene

The silver medalist in the Moscow Wushu Star Championship, held in Russia recently, Sheikh Aman Pasha of Nizamabad, Telangana, says he wishes to see India dominating the world Wushu scene.

Though this sport was not much known in India when he decided to make a career in it, his rise has given him the confidence to see this dream.

He is the son of a Plumbing Work contractor Sheikh Anwar Pasha and despite his family’s limited resources; he worked hard to win a silver medal in the world championship.

Aman Pasha says his experience has motivated him all the more determined to promote the sport of Wushu in India. He says remaining focused on training and practice is the mantra for success. “I want India to dominate in Wushu,” he said.

Sheikh Aman Pasha lives in a rented house in Ahmadpura Colony of Nizamabad. Besides their parents, there are two sisters in his middle-class family.

Aman Pasha is a BA second-year student at Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has been participating in Wushu competitions since 2015 and has won medals in many national-level events.

In the 18th National Osho Championship held at Punjab University, Chandigarh, he bagged a Bronze Medal. Besides, he won dozens of medals in various competitions. He trains in the morning and evening.

Speaking with Awaz-the Voice, Sheikh Aman Pasha said he has won the medal in Moscow due to the efforts of his parents and coach Abdul Omar. He said that his next goal is to win medals in the forthcoming Asian Games and Youth Olympics. He has started training for the events.

Coach and head of the Wushu Association of Nizamabad District Abdul Omar said Aman Pasha has proved that hard work never goes in vain. He has high expectations from Aman Pasha. He says Aman Pasha has brought laurels to Nizamabad by winning the Moscow competitions.

He said that Sheikh Aman Pasha had won a gold medal at the national level and now he has done a remarkable job by winning medals in international competitions. He said that Sheikh Aman must win gold medals in future world-level competitions.

Abdul Omar said that he has been providing Wushu training to young athletes for the last several years. The Wushu players like Saddam Hussein, Muhammad Ibrahim, Syed Rahim, Irfan coached by him have already won medals at the international wushu competitions.

Aman Pasha is an emerging player of Taolu event in Wushu. He was the only player from Telangana state to be selected for the Moscow Championship,” he said.

Wushu is a Chinese term for martial arts. It was invented in 1949 during the training for attaining mastery in Chinese martial arts.

The International Wushu Federation (IWUF) hosts the World Wushu Championships every two years. It hosts two kinds of events – Taolu and Sanda. In Sanda, two athletes compete in Karate, Boxing, Kungfu, Kickboxing, and Judo.
