Srinagar. The intensity of the earthquake which hit Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar has been recorded at 4.50 on the Richter scale; the epicentre has been identified as Sumbal in Baramulla district, confirmed India Meteorological Department (IMD).
No loss of life or damage to the property has been reported as of now.
The monitoring agency United States Geological Survey or USGS recorded the quake’s intensity at 4.50 on the Richter scale, a yardstick used to check an earthquake’s strength.
The USGS pinpointed the epicentre or the location where the earthquake started to Sumbal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, at a depth of 150 kilometres in the Earth’s crust.
Geologists say Jammu and Kashmir lies in a region where seismic activities, or vibrations in the Earth’s crust, are high.
