Srinagar. Four civilians and two policemen and a CRPF trooper were wounded in a grenade blast in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday.
Reports said that grenade was hurled at the CRPF camp near a bank in Sopore which missed the target and exploded on the road, resulting in injuries to four civilians and two cops.
The injured were shifted to Sub-District Hospital of the Sopore for treatment where the condition of all of them is stated to be stable.
The injured civilians were identified as the Bashir Ahmad Shah, son of Haji Ghulam Mohiudin of Badam Bagh , Aamir Sofi, son of Mohammad Amin of Baghat Sopore, Nazir Ahmad Teli, son of Ghulam Ahmad of Arampora and Aaqib Bashir Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad of Botingoo Sopore.
The injured policemen were identified as SPO Aaqib, Belt no.268 and SPO Shabir Ahmed, Belt no.136.
In a tweet police said this afternoon that “Alert SPO throws away grenade to safer place which was hurled inside SF vehicle thus saving lives of dozen police,CRPF & Civilians.@spvaid”.
The injured have been shifted to hospital, they said the condition of injured is stated to be stable. Though security forces launched the search operation immediately.
People ran for safety after the blast, sound of which was heard in the entire town. Normalcy returned in the area after about an hour.
Former Chief Minister and working president of the main opposition party National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah has hailed the SPO who show presence of mind and saved the lives of many people during militant hand grenade attack on a security force party at Sopore yesterday.
Taking to micro blogging site Twitter Abdullah said “ This brave SPO should be rewarded for his presence of mind by immediately regularising him in @JmuKmrPolice cc @spvaid .”
