Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered to increase the pension for the elderly to ₹3,000 in a phased manner over four years.
Mr. Reddy announced this would be the first file he would be signing after being sworn in as the Chief Minister at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on Thursday.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy. He took the oath in Telugu. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and DMK president M K Stalin attended the ceremony.
YSR Congress Party star campaigners and the Chief Minister’s mother Y.S. Vijayamma and sister Y.S. Sharmila, and Mr. Reddy’s wife Y.S. Bharati were also present.
Mr Reddy said implementation of the “Navaratnas” or nine welfare measures plans, would be top priority of his governmentand announced that four lakh jobless youth would be recruited as volunteers by August 15 to door deliver these schemes. Each would be paid ₹5,000 a month. Another 1.6 lakh government jobs would be created by constituting village secretariats that would approve all welfare and benefits for the poor without any form of corruption or discrimination by October 2, Gandhi Jayanthi, Mr. Reddy said adding that the village secretariats would clear all applications within 72 hours.
Mr Reddy said that his government would give a clean administration without scope for bribery and discrimination and it would constitute a Judicial Commission to look into the current tendering process in the State and would bring to light the corruption of previous Government. He said he would go for reverse tendering process and the benefit the government gets from tenders and contracts would be made public in a totally transparent way.
Mr. Rao, in a brief address, said that “it was not a time to cross swords, but to shake hands.” He said both the States should sort out the problems relating to Godavari and Krishna waters together.
