Hyderabad rains: Man drowns in flooded sewer, death toll now 4

As Hyderabad continues to reel under massive downpour, the death toll of rain-related deaths today reached four after a man got washed away in an open sewer of Dwarka Nagar.

The locals who witnessed the man struggling to stay afloat in the gushing water, tried helping but failed to rescue him.

Some videos of the accident also show the man hanging to a manhole in the sewer for some time, waiting for help.

The mishap took place under the Jeedimetala Police Station limit of Cyberbad, whose personnel were quick to reach the spot.

“We received information that a youth in his 30s has fallen in to a nala (sewer) around 4:15 pm. Our station staff reached at the spot. We are trying to locate the person and ascertain his identity,” said police inspector C Shankar Reddy.

Officials from various departments, including Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Revenue Department are also taking part in the search and rescue operation.

Meanwhile, a missing person case has been registered by the police.
