Gandhinagar. Congress on Friday won 3 out of four seats in the sub-election of Mansa Agriculture Produce Committee (APMC) in Gandhinagar. The remaining one went to the BJP, which has been governing the state since 1995, reported TV9 Gujarati.

The results come just weeks before the state is scheduled to go for crucial assembly elections.

In May this year, the saffron party had lost all the eight seats of the Botad APMC over which it had ruled for a decade. Curiously, the setback in Botad had come just weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an irrigation scheme in the district.

The setback in Gandhinagar too has come just days after Modi inaugurated Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river in the state. Addressing a rally some 55 kms from the dam site in Dabhoi town of Vadodara district, the Prime Minister said that the “Sardar Sarovar will become a symbol of India’s new and emerging power and propel growth in the region … the project is an engineering miracle.”

Not so long ago, the face of the Patidar movement in Gujarat, Hardik Patel, had urged his community never to vote for BJP even if the party fielded his father in the December assembly elections.
