GANDHINAGAR: Members of Patidar community on Tuesday created ruckus at Gujarat deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel’s press conference in Gandhinagar and stopped him from speaking to the media.
In the video posted by news agency ANI, members of Patidar community began to chant anti BJP slogans moments after Patel began to address the media. Although, a visibly nervous Patel made desperate attempts to pacify the protesting members of the Patidar community, but to no avail.
Patidars have been vocal against the ruling BJP since 2015, when more than dozen members of the community were killed in police firing as they protested demanding quota for themselves.
The state goes to polls in December and the saffron party is getting increasingly nervous on the prospects of losing an important constituency of voters, who has traditionally supported the BJP.
Just few days ago, the leader of Patidar movement, Hardik Patel, had asked his community to never vote for the BJP even if the party fielded his father in the coming assembly elections.
Earlier this month, Patel was stung by a farmer in his office as he spoke about Hardik and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani. Left red-faced, Patel had later banned the use of mobile phone in his office.
