Gujarat High Court directs the Public Prosecutor to inquire as regards the complaint made against Amish Devgan and seeks report

Ahmedabad: The petitioner Saiyed Imran Kadri Razvi has filed petition before Gujarat High Court through his lawyer Rafik Lokhandwala for registration of FIR against Amish Devgan.

On 15.6.2020, in a live show TV 18, News Director and Anchor Amish Devgan has uttered derogatory remarks against Khwaja Garib Nawaz, who is beloved and respected Sufi Saint not only by Muslim Community but has devotees across all the religions and faiths in the world.

Saiyed Imran Kadri Razvi, an activist of Ahmedabad lodged complaint before Gayakwad Haweli Police Station, Ahmedabad against Amish Devgan for hurting religious sentiments, promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion and classes with an intent to cause riots and incite violence. However, the police did not lodge the FIR against Amish Devgan.

Upon refusal on the part of the police to register the FIR, Saiyed Imran Kadri Razvi filed petition before Gujarat High Court through his lawyer Rafik Lokhandwala seeking registration of FIR against Amish Devgan for his derogatory remarks against Khwaja Garib Nawaz.

Today during the course of hearing, the Gujarat High Court passed the following order

“Learned APP shall inquire as regards complaint made by the petitioner and report on the next date. List on 10.07.2020.”
