In a relief for Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde, who is facing rape allegations by a woman, the Nationalist Congress Party NCP) has decided to let him continue as a minister in the Maharashtra cabinet. NCP chief Sharad Pawar said let the police investigate the rape claims first.

“Yesterday when I commented on Dhananjay Munde issue, I said that the issue was serious but then certain facts were not in the public domain, I came to know that there was a similar complaint against the same lady by different political party leaders,” Sharad Pawar said.

Sharad Pawar further said the case must first be investigated and the party will think of probable action based on the findings of the probe. “Let Mumbai Police do its investigation first. We will think of probable action based o whatever comes in the investigation,” Sharad Pawar said.

According to PTI, the decision was taken considering the complaints of harassment made against the woman by some leaders from the opposition BJP and the MNS.

Top NCP leaders, including party president Sharad Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil and senior leader Praful Patel, met in Mumbai late Thursday night to discuss the issue.

Dhananjay Munde, 45, the social justice minister in the Shiv Sena-led MVA government in Maharashtra, has refuted the rape charges and dubbed them as a blackmail attempt.

On Thursday, BJP leader Krishna Hegde claimed that the woman had been harassing him for several years. An MNS politician, too, has made similar allegations against her.

Krishna Hegde alleged that the woman who accused Munde, had also tried to honey trap, blackmail and extort money from him. Writing a letter to the police, Hegde said that the woman had been calling and messaging him since 2010 and “coaxing” him to have a relationship with her.

Krishna Hegde further claimed that the woman also stalked him and the harassment continued till 2015 but he refused to meet her. The former BJP MLA said he clearly told the woman he does not have any interest in any kind of relationship with her.
