CIA factbook declares VHP and Bajrang Dal as ‘militant’ and Hurriyat as a ‘separatist’ group

US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has classified Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal   — as “militant religious outfits” and Hurriyat Conference as a “separatist group”. However, the RSS has been defined as a “nationalist organisation”

A map posted on the factbook also shows a section of the Indian adminstered Kashmir and the entire Pakistan administered Kashmir as part of Pakistan.

The issue has stoked a controversy with members of many Hindu right wing organizations calling CIA as an “anti-India” organization.

“How come CIA is lenient to Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, which is led by Maulana Mahmood Madani by simply referring to it as a religious organisation while listing similar Hindu groups as militants?” said Praveen Kumar, member of RSS.

The CIA Factbook also includes RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat and VHP’s Pravin Togadia among those who lead “numerous religious or militant/chauvinistic organisations; various separatist groups seeking greater communal and/or regional autonomy”.

The CIA report notes that the outlook for India’s long-term growth is moderately positive due to a young population and corresponding low dependency ratio, healthy savings and investment rates, and increasing integration into the global economy.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today threatened to launch an agitation against the American intelligence agency CIA, which termed it a “religious militant organisation”.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the VHP called the Central Intelligence Agency “anti-India” and sought an apology from it.

General Secretary Surendra Jain said it’s a nationalist group which works for the country.

Asserting that the CIA’s allegations were “baseless” and “false”, Jain in a statement said, “The CIA was responsible for creating Osama bin Laden and has no moral right to lecture it.”
