Police in Uttar Pradesh have arrested a BSF jawan for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, whose female agent honey-trapped him.
Constable Achuytanand Mishra, who was posted at the BSF Composite hospital in Delhi, was allegedly honey-trapped by ISI on Facebook, reported Hindustan Times. Uttar Prades’s Anti-Terror Squad arrested him on Wednesday.
State police chief OP Singh said that Mishra was arrested from Noida near Delhi on Wednesday (today). He was allegedly in touch with a Pakistani girl on Facebook since January 2016. The girl had reportedly posed as a defence reporter.
A report by PTI said that Mishra had later started a WhatsApp chat with a phone number registered in Pakistan and the details of the chat indicated that he was being influenced on religion conversion and Kashmir.
DGP Singh said that Mishra had had saved the Pakistani number as “Pakistani dost” (friend), adding that he will be produced before a court in Lucknow.
The DGP added that the BSF jawan was interrogated by ATS and BSF officials for two days in Noida near Delhi and, prima facie, there is enough evidence to prove that he has committed crime under the Official Secrets Act.
He’s believed to be a resident of Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa.
Earlier in February this year, a senior-ranking Indian Air Force officer, Group Captain Arun Marwah, was arrested for sharing sensitive information to Pakistani women on Facebook.
Just like Mishra, Marwah too was in touch with Pakistani women on Facebook, where he became friends with her before he shared the classified information with her via WhatsApp.
A probe by Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Space Agency and a Special Operations Division discovered that Marwah often clicked photos of classified documents related to combat exercises at the Air Force headquarters before sending them to women working for ISI.
