BJP member, wife killed by gunmen in J&K’s Anantnag; party condemns attack

Ghulam Rasool Dar, a district president of BJP Kisan Morcha, and his wife were reportedly shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Monday. The BJP has condemned the attack.

Ghulam Rasool Dar, district president of BJP Kisan Morcha in Kulgam and a sarpanch, and his wife Jawhira Banoo were allegedly shot at and killed by unidentified gunmen at Lal Chowk in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Monday. The two were injured and shifted to a hospital but could not be saved.

BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur condemned the attack on the couple. He described the attack as a barbaric and cowardly act and urged the police to nab the perpetrators and “punish them sternly”.

Altaf Thakur further said, “The attacking and killing of innocent people will lead nowhere. Such acts reflect the frustration of militants.” He also expressed his sympathies for the grieving families.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha took to Twitter to condemn the attack. From the official handle of the Jammu and Kashmir LG, he wrote, “I strongly condemn the brutal terrorist attack on the Sarpanch GH Rasool Dar and his wife Jawhara Banoo of Redwani Bala, Kulgam.”

He added, “This is an act of cowardice and the perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice very soon. My deepest condolences to bereaved family in this time of grief.”
