BJP loses Jaipur mayor election by 1 vote to independent candidate with Congress support

BJP candidate Manoj Bhardwaj lost to Vishnu Lata, who has been the BJP councillor but fought as an independent candidate.

After losing the state assembly election to the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today suffered a humiliating defeat in the election for the post of Jaipur mayor.

The party lost by one vote in the election despite being in the majority in the Jaipur Municipal Council.

BJP candidate Manoj Bhardwaj lost to Vishnu Lata, who has been the BJP councillor but fought as an independent candidate. He won the election as the Congress supported him for the Jaipur mayor election against BJP’s Bhardwaj.

“There has been a massive defeat of the arrogance of Bharatiya Janta Party. In Rajasthan Assembly as well, BJP’s leaders show arrogance. Vishnu Lata, who was their councillor, in opposition to the murder of democracy and against the dictatorship of the BJP, fought as an Independent. The reason behind the BJP’s loss was the rebellion by the BJP councillors against the corruption of the BJP board,” Congress’s Pratap Singh Khachariyawas said.

A total of 90 votes were cast in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation election. BJP’s Manoj Bhardwaj, who received 44 votes got trounced by Vishnu Lata, who bagged 45 votes. Several BJP councillors are believed to have voted in favour of Lata, which resulted in his victory.

“Because of a few people changing sides, the discipline in BJP does not finish. Such people who have gotten sold for a few silver pieces do not have a long future,” BJP leader Rajendra Rathore said.
