BJP, Hindu Munnani members manhandle Chennai auto driver for raising fuel price issue to Tamilisai Soundararajan

CHENNAI: BJP members allegedly assaulted an auto driver in Saidapet here on Sunday night when he tried to raise anguish over the rocketing fuel price to party Tamil Nadu party president Tamilisai Soundararajan.

The incident took place when Tamilisai went to attend a Vinayagar Chathurthi programme organised by the Hindu Munnani.

After the programme, Tamilisai was speaking reporters when Kathir, an auto driver and resident of Saidapet, intervened and politely said, “Sister, fuel price is raising.”

Before he completed his question, BJP and Hindu Munnani members pulled him by his hair from the back and took him away. They allegedly manhandled and threatened him for accosting the BJP state president, who shrugged off the auto driver’s question with her trademark smile.

In a video, Kathir said he had raised his anguish over the rising fuel price and wanted to air the grievance of auto drivers like him. But the BJP party cadre had mistaken him, he said.

“To run a family, at least Rs 500 is needed per day. But we (auto drivers) are not able to earn so much due to the present scenario (fuel price). We are paying Rs 150 as rent for the auto and filling fuel for Rs 300 per day. We managed to earn only Rs 300. It is not sufficient to run a family,” he said.
Repeated attempts to reach Tamilisai for her response ended in vain.
