Salman Nadwi, a former member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, was heckled by a group of students and teachers at the Islamic seminary Nadwatul Ulema in Lucknow.
Lucknow: In a rather unfortunate development in the contentious Ram temple issue, a Muslim scholar was on Thursday heckled by his own community for supporting the Ram Mandir agenda.
Salman Nadwi, a former member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), was heckled by a group of students and teachers at the Islamic seminary Nadwatul Ulema in Lucknow for speaking in favour of the Ram temple.
The Islamic scholar has in the past voraciously advocated the relinquishment of the disputed land in favour of Hindus. According to sources, Nadwi had gone to a seminary today to attend a board meeting when the incident took place.
The incident sparked a political debate, with Hindu activists and Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson swiftly speaking in support of the Muslim cleric for his remarks.
“Those who call themselves minorities are the same people who are attacking their own community,” BJP spokesperson Anila Singh told Times Now.
