Silchar: A tense environment has been brewing in Assam ahead of the release of first NRC draft that was released on the midnight of December 31st, 2017.

As anticipated, there was panic amongst various sections of civil society owing to insecurity if their names did not appear in the list. However, when the draft was released, panic gripped many people whose names did not find place in the list despite the fact that this was only the first draft and more were yet to be released after the current process of verification.

However, this did not seem to have gone down too well with  a 40-year-old man who was found hanging from a tree at Kashipur village under Udharbond constituency in Assam’s Cachar district on Monday.

The body has been identified as that of Hanif Khan who was a driver by profession and stayed at a rented house with his wife and three children.

As per local residents, Hanif took this drastic step after not finding his name in the 1st draft of the NRC released last night.

His wife Raksa Khan informed that her husband had been tense for the past couple of months pertaining to NRC issue. She also informed that Hanif remained missing from home since 7 pm last evening and was found hanging from a tree nearby their house. Raksa first saw the dead body around 6:50 am.

A team of police officials reached the spot around 8:30 am and sent the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.A probe has been initiated regarding the matter.
