Mufti Asjad Raza will lead millions of Sunni Muslims in India and internationally in the same position as his father, as the Grand Mufti and Chief Islamic Justice of India.
The late Mufti Akhtar Raza held the position of Grand Mufti and Chief Islamic Justice of India leading millions of Sunni Barelwi Muslims. He is regarded as one of the most influential Islamic scholars of the modern era and during his lifetime he entrusted Mufti Asjad Raza with many positions.
Salman Hasan Khan, vice-president, Jamat Raza-e-Mustafa, an organisation affiliated to Dargah Aala Hazrat, said, “An unanimous decision passed by 67 scholars rightfully appointed Mufti Asjad Raza, son and successor of Mufti Akhtar Raza, as the ‘Qadi Al-Qudaat’ (Chief Islamic Justice) of India. Sunni Barelvi clerics will now have to consult Musti Asjad Raza in important Sharia matters.”
He added that all scholars present in the seminar signed a written declaration affirming the appointment. The names of these signatories will be published in the annual report of Fiqhi Seminar.
