Asaduddin Owaisi said that as per Supreme Court guidelines, not only seniority but the amount of time a selected officer has worked in investigative cases is also important.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday raised questions on the Saturday appointment of Rishi Kumar Shukla as the new Central Bureau of Investigation chief. Owaisi was speaking at an event ‘Words Count’ in Pune where he was being interviewed by the editor of the mouthpiece of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh — Bharat Prakashan.
Asaduddin Owaisi said that the appointment of the CBI chief is not in compliance with the Supreme Court guidelines. He said that as per the SC guidelines, not only seniority but the amount of time a selected officer has worked in investigative cases is also important.
Owaisi said that due to improper investigations, a large number of people belonging to Muslims, Dalits and adivasi castes have been languishing in jails.
Owaisi started off by mentioning the case of Anand Teltumbde, the accused in Elgar Parishad case. He said that despite Supreme Court directions, Anand Teltumbde was arrested illegally by the Pune Police.
Because of poor investigations, the conviction of Dalits, Muslims and adivasis is more.
