After Trump calls Modi father of India, Owaisi says US president insulted Gandhi’s legacy

Asaduddin Owaisi says Modi not the father of India and adds that US President Donald Trump is playing games with India.

All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday criticised US President Donald Trump for calling PM Narendra Modi “the father of India”.

Calling Donald Trump an illiterate who he said has no knowledge of India’s history, Owaisi claimed that US President’s statement insulted the legacy of India.

“Trump has no knowledge of our freedom struggle. Modi can’t be the father of the nation because you can’t compare him to Mahatma Gandhi. Even giants like Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sardar Patel were not given such titles,” Owaisi said.

“I leave this on his wisdom but I am not accepting it [father of the nation title]. I hope PM comes out and issues clarification on what Trump has said,” Owaisi added.

On US President Donald Trump comparing PM Modi to American musician Elvis Presely, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “There is a slight connection. Presely used to mesmerise people with his songs, Modi also does that with his speeches. But I don’t want to demean my PM by comparing Modi to Elvis.”

Owaisi added that Trump was playing mind games. “He is playing a double game. He praises both Modi and Imran Khan. We need to understand the games of Donald Trump,” he added.

Donald Trump had on Tuesday said Modi was no less a rock star than Elvis Presley. “Those people went crazy,” Trump said, and added, “That was like Elvis. That was like, he’s like an American version of Elvis.”
