Three Assam Rifles jawans were among four detained in Dibrugarh for transporting drugs worth Rs 1 crore.
The Assam Police arrested four persons including three jawans of the Assam Rifles in connection with a drug trafficking case in the Dibrugarh district and seized drugs worth Rs 1 crore.
The police arrested the accused from National Highway-37 near Jokai on Friday morning. The accused were driving a car from Dimapur, Nagaland to Tinsukia, Assam. Police recovered 269 grams of heroin from another vehicle.
According to Dibrugarh district Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra, a police team intercepted their vehicle and detained four people based on intelligence input.
“During questioning, the accused told the police that heroin was hidden in another vehicle and kept at a location in Dergaon, Golaghat district,” a top police officer said.
“A police team swung into action and located the aforementioned vehicle, recovering 269 grams of heroin worth Rs 1 crore from it. We later apprehended three Assam Rifles jawans and a civilian,” he added.
The accused admitted to buying the drugs from a Manipuri woman in Nagaland’s Dimapur and transporting the same to Tinsukia. The arrested Assam Rifles jawans were identified as Ranjit Kumar Singha, Binay Kumar and Junush Khan, while the fourth person was identified as Pezslhoulie Rupreo.
Police registered a case at Dibrugarh police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
