12 dead in cylinder blast in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau, 5-yr-old feared trapped under debris

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the blast and has offered condolences to the family of the deceased.

At least 12 people were killed and 16 injured after a two-storey building collapsed following a cylinder blast in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district on Monday. A five-year-old boy is feared trapped under the debris.

“A boy is missing and we are conducting the rescue to find him. An NDRF team is about to reach the spot to assist the rescue operation. Several police teams are here and are involved in the rescue operation,” said DIG Azamgarh Manoj Tiwari.

Speaking on the blast, the DIG said, “The blast happened on Monday morning after a gas cylinder exploded. A part of the adjoining house has also been damaged. The house where the blast occurred was a very old structure where a joint family lived.”

In a press release, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. “UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the blast in a house in Walidpur in Mau. He has expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and directed that DM and SP and all officers to immediately provide all possible relief and medical help to the injured persons,” the government’s press release read.
