Acquiring worldwide craze and popularity among gamers of all age, the game Pokemon Go! has been declared “Haraam” or Forbidden in Islam by the Muftis at Dargah Ala Hazrat, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

After research and Islamic analysis, a team of Muftis gave the game the status of “Haraam” and strictly prohibited Muslims to engage in playing this game. The game has also been banned in Saudi Arabia and has been issued a Fatwa too.

The question of whether or not the game can be played under Islamic laws, arose when Mohammed Shahid from Durban, South Africa and Mohammed Ali from Mauritius expressed their confusion as they had heard rumors that the game is forbidden to be played and requested a clarification regarding the same under Sharia’h law.

To this confusion, Mufti Mohammed Saleem Noori, said that the Muftis were unaware of the game and for this reason, research was conducted which led to the clarification of facts and then it was decided that playing such a game is forbidden in Islam.

Mufti Noori also said, “The game promotes the Shaytaan or the Devil, it showcases the unprecedented power the evil forces hold. Also, it is coming to our notice that it is more of an addiction rather than a relaxing activity. It is deviating people from focusing on religious and familial duties. This inability that the player develops to function normally and diverts his attention from his religious and family life is one of the main reason that Sharia’h forbids this game.”

Sajjadanasheen (Head) of Dargah Ala Hazrat, Ahsan Raza Khan Quadri has also declared the game to be forbidden in Islam and strictly prohibits Muslims around the world to play it.
